Cool Tips for Perfect Summer Parties

by Charlene Dupray

-Ice, Ice Baby! Never underestimate how much ice you'll need during a summer party-have plenty on hand, even if the party's indoors.

-Water, Water Everywhere... Make water a featured beverage. Nothing quenches summer thirst like an icy glass of H2O. Freeze fruit juice in ice cube trays to make fruity ice cubes that add a little extra pizazz. Your guests will love your attention to detail.

-Help Guests Keep Their Cool. Slapping mosquitoes while sizzling in the sun can overshadow even the best party. Provide a basket of amenities for guests: sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, hand sanitizer. They'll be grateful for this thoughtful touch!

-Freeze 'Em Out for Dessert! Homemade ice cream sandwiches (use over sized chocolate chip cookies and vanilla ice cream), a make-your-own sundae bar, bon bons, frozen chocolate-covered bananas, and even popsicles are a hit with kids and adults alike. Frozen drinks like mud slides or daiquiris also make great grown-up desserts.

-Go Cold Turkey. Remember food safety. Nestle salads, cold meats, and seafood on beds of ice. Summer heat can quickly turn a dreamy potato salad into a gastronomic nightmare. Keep it casual, keep it simple, and remember to have fun!
